10 Great Sites To Find Gigs And Part-Time Work

10 Great Sites To Find Gigs And Part-Time Work

If you’re considering escaping your 9-5 job for something more flexible or want to work part-time in retirement, you’ll likely discover that finding a flexible job online is a challenge.
It takes persistence, patience and moxie to sift out the few flexible gigs from the thousands of full-time postings.
Making matters more complicated for you, there are scores of sites advertising work-from-home gigs and part-time jobs that are questionable at best — and con jobs at worst. You’d be amazed how sophisticated some of these work-from-home sites look, making it nearly impossible to distinguish the scams from the legitimate players.

To help you cut through the clutter (and avoid the phonies), I’ve pulled together a list of 10 of my favorite sites for flexible work. In addition to job listings, many of these sites host valuable articles and resources to help you navigate the world of alternative-work arrangements. (To learn about other helpful resources for finding flexible work, visit my list of 100+ Great Second-Act Career Sites on my blog at MyLifestyleCareer.com.)(MOREStarting a Side Gig After 50)
One caveat: When you go to any site looking for work opportunities, please exercise common sense and caution. With that in mind, here are the 10 sites I recommend checking out, whether you’re looking for a challenging part-time gig, a seasonal job or just an easy way to supplement your retirement income:
Best Overall Site
FlexJobs.com In my estimation, this is the best jobs board for flexible work. While I normally advise steering clear of sites that charge for access to their postings, I think this one is worth it (cost: a minimum of $14.95 a month).
FlexJobs is fastidious about checking the legitimacy of its listings before posting. As a result, the site boasts an unusually high percentage of flexible professional jobs. (I experienced its rigorous screening process firsthand a few months ago while helping my congregation search for a new assistant; FlexJobs carefully evaluated us before agreeing to post our listing.)
You’ll find jobs in more than 50 categories and a wide range of scheduling arrangements — part-time, telecommuting, full-time but flexible, etc.
Even if you choose not to pay to access the listings, you can still read the FlexJobs blog, where you’ll find a wide selection of articles on flexible work, including some targeted to the 50+ demographic.
Working From Home
Ratracerebellion.com Out of all the types of flexible job listings, finding quality and legitimate work-from-home gigs tends to be the most problematic. That’s why I like Ratracerebellion.com.
This site screens all its listings and compiles them into a free daily e-newsletter. You’ll find a variety of jobs, including customer-service, administrative, technical and writing projects.
Most are on the lower end of the pay scale — often in the under $20 an hour range. But as a subscriber to their newsletter, I’ve seen see a smattering of higher-paid opportunities, some of which even offer benefits.
Directselling411.com Love ‘em or hate ‘em, the home-party industry is a big player in the work-from-home space. And if you’re interested in working for a home party such as Pampered Chef, this site (from the Direct Selling Association) is a great place to begin your research

Five Part-Time Jobs That You Can Do Online

Luckily for job seekers, employers are opening up more and more part-time positions online so that they have access to a more diverse applicant pool and they can save on overhead costs by hiring people to work off-site. How Students With No Money Can Still Make Money Online Right Now

How Students With No Money Can Still Make Money Online Right Now

Everyone wants to make money online. Students are always online. Students need money.
Wait a minute, are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Are there online jobs for students without investment money to get started?
I don’t want to be one of 60 million people on the ‘net writing about how to make money online because everyone thinks that those sites are a scam.
However, I love to talk about making money online because it’s one of the most amazing things that you can do with your spare time in your youth. If you can make even one dollar online, you’ll be ahead of your buddies that spend all day on Facebook creeping girls that they have no chance with.
One of my favorite articles that I ever wrote is about how you can start an online business in 6 easy steps. I wanted to expand on this today and talk about online jobs f or college students.
By default, I feel the need to write about making money online once in a while, since I do make money online and lots of my friends ask about how this can be done. I also noticed that one of my most popular pieces is still the one about the best online jobs for college students.
So how can a student with no money to invest make money online?
I list out the options that worked for me.

Start freelancing.

As you’ve probably noticed by now, I love the idea of freelancing and making extra money on the side. Hence, why I launched an eBook and blog titled, Start Freelancing Now.
To save you some time and so that I don’t repeat myself (I’ve been known to do that), I suggest that you ready my piece on how to become a freelance writer right now.
For now I wanted to highlight some of the comments from the last time I wrote about online jobs for college students.
Chris wrote in with how he made money online as a college student:
I use freelancer.com and it’s wonderful. It has a milestone payment system so you get a portion of your fees upfront. You simply decide what your skills are, bid for jobs and if you are selected, you dictate your price and how long it will take to deliver.
I specialize in writing articles and product descriptions. The last descriptions I did for cellular factory got me $120. You can also create a webpage for a fee on the site and advertise your business.
And don’t worry about getting cheated. Freelancer.com has a a legal department that will settle all disputes after reviewing all evidence. Just remember that the minimum payment on freelancer is $30. It is a rule of the site.
A large percentage of my online income actually comes from freelance writing. I wouldn’t change this for the world because I love what I do and I love to see you guys keep more cash in your pocket.

Perform some sort of a unique service.

You can also create your own job as a student by offering some sort of a service.
I was reading about this the other day at 20s Finances and stumbled upon this little nugget of information on using Fiverr to make money:
A friend of mine offered to sing people ‘Happy Birthday’ in German for $5. Last year, he made close to $1,000 just for signing the song!
In a similar note, many years ago, a reader who eventually turned to full-time blogging left the following comment here:
I’ve actually looked into becoming a virtual assistant. I’m keeping it as a backup option if I ever hate my job enough to leave.
What I’m getting at is that if you can perform any sort of decent service online, you’ll be able to make money as a broke college student looking for beer money. Just please don’t limit yourself and try to explore all options.
Who knows, you might even build enough of an income to pursue online work full-time as I’ve been working on ever since I finished my studies last year.
Those are the best ways that college students can make money.
